SARAJEVO, June 23 (FENA) - Specialist in internal medicine, a vascular specialist and Head of the Department of Vascular Diseases and Complications Caused by Diabetes at the French Villiers St. Denis Hospital, Dr. Alma Kulenović promoted the book ‘’Treatment of diabetes and its complications: diabetic foot ulcer and amputation" today at the General Hospital in Sarajevo.
The book was published earlier in France and has now been translated into Bosnian and will be distributed free of charge to diabetic associations and hospitals in BiH.
As it was said today at the promotion, the book by Dr. Kulenović, a recognized expert in the treatment of diabetes in France, is a synthesis of her many years of experience and work on the treatment of the consequences of diabetes.
‘’The book is intended for the entire team of doctors, specialized nurses, physiotherapists, and even patients themselves to help them with this serious disease and to present the positive results obtained with the knowledge, work and effort of an entire team,’’ said Dr. Kulenović.
She added that the book was written in simple language in an accessible and practical way, with many pictures, from everyday practice, and that it reflects teamwork and serves in the treatment and prevention of complications of diabetes, known as the world epidemic, which affected all continents and strata of society.
‘’The book is a synthesis of her professional career from internal medicine to angiology, from angiology to diabetology. This richly illustrated book is mainly dedicated to diabetic foot, but also deals with the treatment of wounds in general and amputations, as well as specific methods of care and various types of orthopedic aids (shoes, prostheses and orthoses) for which the excellent center of Villiers Saint Denis Hospital is known,’’ it is said at the promotion.
Humanist Mladen Jeličić Troka said that Dr. Alma Kulenović accepted the great challenge, addressing patients on the one hand with a simple explanation of their pathology and giving practical advice, and on the other hand professionals, doctors, nurses and all actors involved in the care of diabetics.
Dr. Alma Kulenović, born Lihić, has lived in France since 1990, where she came before the war on a one-year post-specialist scholarship from the French government, and she started her medical career at the age of 23 as an assistant at the Institute of Physiology and Biochemistry of the Medical Faculty in Sarajevo in 1982, as she stayed to work at the faculty as an excellent student.
