PRIJEDOR, May 31 (FENA) - Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Fadil Novalić paid tribute to the killed Prijedor citizens today and laid a rose at the place where a monument to the killed children of Prijedor should be built on the occasion of the "White Ribbon Day - May 31".

“The least that can be done today is to be here and show reverence for the victims of the most heinous war crimes. We thought after World War II that it would never happen again that the Nazis forced people to mark them, expel them, kill them, deport them to camps and torture them in the worst ways the human mind can comprehend. Unfortunately, all this happened again in Prijedor in 1992, and even today we see discrimination and prohibitions in action,” said Novalić.

He added that he is here today to show that no bans can stop people from remembering and paying homage and that no one can forbid anyone from wearing this white ribbon today.

“Today, we are peacefully facing the proven facts about 3,176 killed innocent civilian victims of Prijedor, of which 102 are children. We stand calmly in front of their surviving parents and try to alleviate their pain at least as much as possible with a handshake and a word of comfort,” Novalić pointed out.

He appealed to the consciousness and conscience of those who decide in Prijedor, that the authorities here finally recognize the court verdicts and at least allow the construction of a memorial for the killed children.

Despite the ban, the citizens paid tribute to the killed civilians by laying roses and wearing white ribbons around their arms, remembering the 3,176 killed citizens of Prijedor, non-Serb civilians, including 102 children.
