SARAJEVO, May 16 (FENA) - Representatives of news agencies from Europe gathered in Sarajevo to say that we must provide truthful, concrete information, said in an interview with FENA the Director-General of Turkish Anadolu Agency Serdar Karagoz.

Karagoz was one of the participants of the spring conference of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), which was held in Sarajevo on the topic "Facts and fiction in War and Pandemic" hosted by the Federal News Agency (FENA).

EANA brings together leading news agencies from most European countries, including some of the world's most influential media outlets. FENA is the only agency from Bosnia and Herzegovina that has been a full member of EANA since 2017.

Karagoz thanked for the invitation to participate in the conference, emphasizing that he personally feels closeness towards Bosnia and Herzegovina and that he feels wonderful in Sarajevo with his participation at EANA's very important gathering.

He stressed that representatives of news agencies have gathered to discuss the issue of fact-checking under the current circumstances.

"We need to discuss two very important issues. The first is the Russian-Ukrainian war, i.e. how to do news under these circumstances, because we see fake news everywhere, as well as manipulating news and spreading misinformation, and it is very important for us to have truthful news," he added.

On the other hand, there is the situation with Covid-19 and under these circumstances, there was a visible spread of misinformation and manipulation of facts which made fact-checking very important.

All news agencies have a responsibility to obtain accurate information and to deliver them to the world, which is why the participants discussed all these challenges at the conference in Sarajevo.

He thanked FENA for providing them with a wonderful welcome in Sarajevo, and the journalists who made their voices heard because the world needs information, and news agencies have a responsibility in that regard.

"We are now at a moment when the number of challenges is increasing. We have seen the challenges caused by Covid-19. We are now witnessing the Ukrainian-Russian war and, unfortunately, we will witness an increasing number of disasters. There will be more war. So life in this world will not be easy for anyone. Under these circumstances, the importance of news agencies is increasing," he explained.

In these circumstances, Karagoz concluded, the world needs reliable information, concrete information and accurate information, and in that context, the importance of news agencies will only increase in the near future.

Anadolu Agency was founded in 1920. It publishes content in 13 languages and has offices in 100 countries. It has more than 3,000 employees from 142 countries, publishing an average of about 3,000 news pieces a day, more than 3,000 photos, eight infographics, 310 videos and provides services for 6,000 media outlets.
