BRČKO, May 13 (FENA) - Principal Deputy High Representative and Brčko District Supervisor Michael Scanlan attended the inaugural session of the Brčko District Council of National Minorities on Thursday.

Scanlan commended the creation of this body as it will play a key role in improving the political, economic, and social status of national minorities in the District, and thus ensure Brčko is truly an inclusive community for all its residents based on European good governance practices, the OHR said in a press release.

On Friday, together with the US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Deborah Mennuti, Supervisor Scanlan met with the leadership of the District Government and Assembly to discuss steps on how to accelerate putting into practice the policy of zero-tolerance of corruption.

This involves more intensive policing and prosecution of corruption with a clear message that the law applies to everyone equally. It also involves taking legislative steps and structural changes to ensure that the District public administration and public companies provide fast, transparent and quality services to the public, and are not undermined by appointments based on patronage or nepotism.
