SARAJEVO, April 28 (FENA) - The FBiH Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry Nermin Džindić said that at today's session, the Government of the Federation of BiH approved the Bill amending the Law on Electricity, which suspends the issuance of permits for small hydropower plants.

The amendment to Article 3 of the Law added a definition according to which a small hydropower plant (sHPP) is a hydropower facility with an installed capacity of up to 10 MW. The new paragraph in Article 78 also specifies that the issuance of energy permits for small hydropower plants is suspended, except for those on gravity water supply systems.

"The law primarily defines what small hydropower plants are, that these are plants with an installed capacity of up to 10 megawatts. Also, the suspension of issuing energy permits for such facilities is defined by these amendments," said Džindić.

Džindić expects that both houses of the Parliament will soon adopt the amendments to the Bill in order to enable it to enter into force.

"The applicants for energy permits have three years for a transitional period to complete their projects and obtain an energy permit. Unfortunately, all those who exceed that deadline will be excluded from the project, i.e. they will lose their energy permit," said Džindić.
