SARAJEVO, April 13 (FENA) - Asim Sarajlić announced that he resigned from the position of Chair of the Bosniak People Caucus in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH (BIH PA HoP) due to the sanctions imposed by the US Ministry of Finance, as well as from the positions of the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Defense and Security and the Chairman of the Delegation of the BiH PA to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
“Regardless of the fact that I have not been convicted of any crime in the first instance or by a final judgment, I believe that due to the decision of the US authorities to put me on the list of sanctioned persons, it is my obligation to resign from these positions. As a responsible person, for whom the interest of the state is above all, I do not want to be an obstacle in any way in the implementation of joint strategic plans and partnerships of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States,” Sarajlić said in a press release.
As he points out, the United States of America is a long-term true friend and strategic partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and no individual should be an obstacle to continued cooperation.
“In the decision of the Ministry of Finance of the USA, a number of arbitrary accusations were made against me. I expect that all possible information and potential evidence on the allegations stated in the mentioned decision will be submitted to the BiH judiciary. I am at the disposal of the judicial institutions of BiH at all times, fully convinced that I will prove my innocence in a fair and honest procedure,” concludes Sarajlić.
