SARAJEVO, March 25 (FENA) - In a response on its official Twitter profile, the US Embassy in BiH welcomed the coordinated action of political parties for the country to obtain candidate status for EU membership, but said key reform laws are needed first as they are necessary for BiH's progress towards the EU.
"Political parties calling for accelerated EU membership path while on the same day they vote down key European reform laws are not sincere and are not serious about improving the lives of the people they claim to represent," the US Embassy said.
The delegates of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly adopted at yesterday's session a decision requesting the granting of candidate status to Bosnia and Herzegovina for membership in the European Union under an accelerated procedure and instructed the Council of Ministers to send the initiative to EU bodies.
However, although laws that would meet some of the 14 conditions of the European Commission's Opinion on the request were on the agenda, they did not receive the necessary support, such as the Bill on the Prevention of Conflicts of Interest in the BiH Institutions.
