BRUSSELS, March 24 (FENA) - The Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković told reporters in Brussels today, where a session of the Council of the European Union is being held, that after his insisting, a debate on the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina was included on the agenda.
"We consider this especially important because for years there has been no such formal discussion on the situation in BiH, especially after the talks held by international officials with BiH leaders on changes to the Election Law in order to reach a compromise on the issue," said Plenković.
As part of that discussion, he will give an introductory speech in which he will propose that the European Union continue to engage in a strong way with high-level political authority in order to try to bring closer the positions in BiH, "especially those between Bosniak and Croat political parties."
"Relaxation of these relations and the establishment of an alliance and partnership between Bosniaks and Croats is crucial for the good functioning of the Federation of BiH, but also for holding the elections in which Croat representatives will not be elected by members of another nation," said Plenković.
He believes that this is important not only from the aspect of BiH and the interests of Croatia, which is the only EU member state bordering BiH and which acts in a friendly and benevolent manner "but also because of the foreign policy interest of the entire EU, which in the global situation should invest the effort to reach an agreement and then hold elections in BiH in accordance with the new election legislation."
