SARAJEVO, December 28 (FENA) - FBiH Minister of Environment and Tourism Edita Djapo said in Sarajevo today that activities have been launched in 2021 to double the surface of protected areas in the FBiH from the current 3.24 percent.
Presenting the results of the work of the relevant ministry in the past 12 months, Djapo explained that the law on the Vjetrenica cave was prepared for that purpose, which was adopted by the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Government in February, after which UNESCO was asked to declare a protected natural area.
She added that the same request was sent to UNESCO for Martin Brod waterfalls at the Una National Park, and that activities were initiated to protect the Klek - Neum area, Zvijezda mountain, Livanjsko polje, Bjelašnica - Treskavica - Visočica belt, Rakitnica canyon, Čemerska mountains with canyon Misoče, as well as the proclamation of the Blidinje Nature Park as a national park.
Djapo said that the Law on Environmental Protection was adopted in 2021, the adoption of which they had been waiting for a long time, and that the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Nature Protection and the Draft Law on Air Protection had passed the parliamentary procedure.
She pointed out that the ministry, in cooperation with USAID, was working on the development of the FBiH Tourism Development Strategy, which she also hopes will be harmonized with the cantons next year and adopted by the FBiH Parliament.
Minister Djapo stated that they are working with the Embassy of Sweden on the development of the Environmental Protection Strategy, which they expect to be drafted by May 2022.
