NICS crisis training and management center opens in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, December 21 (FENA) - The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina today opened the NICS Center (Next-Generation Incident Command System) for training and work on crisis management command system at a ceremony in Sarajevo.

It is a project supported by NATO's Science for Peace and Security program and the United States Department of Homeland Security, which enables better communication and coordination of protection and rescue services in BiH in emergency situations, including the involvement of defense structures within civil-military cooperation missions.

The opening of the NICS center in the premises of the BiH Ministry of Security was welcomed by the Commander of the NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, Brigadier General Pamela McGraha, and the US Ambassador to BiH Eric Nelson, emphasizing the importance of introducing the NICS system in BiH for quick and efficient response to natural and other disasters.

It is, as they said, the most up-to-date system in the function of saving people and material goods, based on the latest generation information platform, and which testifies to the importance of improving the partnership with NATO, the essence of which is strengthening collective security, including responding to crisis situations.

The BiH officials thanked the US Embassy in BiH, NATO and EUFOR for their proactive role and cooperation in strengthening BiH capacities in the security and defense sector as well as in terms of improving the security environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina in general.

In addition to officials from the BiH Ministry of Security, the BiH Ministry of Defense and the AFBiH, the ceremony was attended by representatives of the US Embassy in BiH, NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo and EUFOR.
