Sarajlić: EUFOR forces significantly contribute to strengthening BiH's stability

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 29 (FENA) - Members of the Joint Committee on Defense and Security of BiH and the Delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiHPA) to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) held a meeting today with the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee Claudio Graziano, who is on a multi-day visit to our country.

General Graziano was welcomed by the Chairman of the Joint Committee on Defense and Security of BiH and the PABiH Delegation to NATO PA, Asim Sarajlić, who assessed the visit of the Chairman of the EU Military Committee as very important at a time when we need dialogue both within BiH and with our friends from the EU, NATO and international organizations who, working with BiH officials, have gone through a very successful period of transition and implementation of reforms in the defense and security sector.

In his address, the Chairman of the EU Military Committee, General Claudio Graziano, underlined that BiH and the entire Western Balkans region are not only neighbors for the EU, but also close partners in facing security and all other challenges that threaten the citizens of Europe.

According to General Graziano, the European Commission is committed to preserving the ALTEA Mission in BiH, but also to supporting the unified Armed Forces of BiH, which, as he said, is an investment in peace and security in Europe. In this regard, General Graziano announced an additional 10 million euros of support to the Demining Battalion of the Armed Forces of BiH, which will have 34 new transport vehicles, as many new medical vehicles and 150 new metal detectors at its disposal as of next year.

During the meeting, General Graziano gave a lecture on the current and future security challenges, emphasizing that the EU, in the face of security threats, but also natural disasters and the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, must be ready to respond independently and in cooperation with external partners, announced the Press Service of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
