Izetbegović: Pro-Bosnian parties need to unite for the elections in Mostar

SARAJEVO, August 5 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović told reporters today after the session of the party’s presidency, calling on the BiH Ministry of Security to urgently draw up a plan of measures with clearly defined goals, activities, deadlines and necessary material and technical means with two main goals - better border control and making it more difficult for migrants to enter BiH.

“For those who are already in BiH, they need to be accommodated in migration centers. They cannot be present in such numbers among the local population in the cities in BiH,” stated Izetbegović.

The SDA presidency supported the Mothers of Srebrenica petition, which calls on the High Representative in BiH to pass a law banning genocide denial and annulling decorations awarded to war criminals from the RS.

Speaking about BiH's progress on the path to the European Union, Izetbegović said that the SDA Presidency welcomed the fact that three of the eight priorities have been fulfilled.

“I think we have a chance to adopt the following three - the Law on Public Procurement, the Law on Conflict of Interest and amendments to the Law on the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council. All this can be done in the next two months,” Izetbegović believes.

He also spoke about the election process, saying that "we are witnessing attempts to link the organization of the election model achieved for the city of Mostar with the situation in Travnik."

“These are completely unfounded claims. I think they serve exclusively for some election campaign purposes. In any case, the SDA has never participated in such combinations, and there will be none of that. As soon as the elections are over, that topic will be removed from the agenda,” said Izetbegović.

He added that they called on all pro-Bosnian parties and forces to unite and make a joint participation in the local elections in the city of Mostar, with a single list for the City Council.

“Regarding the questioning of the powers of the Council of Peoples of the RS, they cannot be reduced, they must be retained, where the powers of the House of Peoples of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH and the Council of Peoples of RS must be equal, because peoples and citizens must be equal before the Constitution and law and with asymmetric solutions adopted some 15 years ago, that was called into question,” underlined Izetbegović.

The SDA believes that there is some truth in the claims of the RS Interior Minister Dragan Lukač that “the inspiration for a number of terrorist acts in the world came from BiH."

“It was the case with Breivik in Norway, as well as terrorists from New Zealand,; they were all inspired by war criminals from the RS. We call on Lukač to deal harshly with those who glorify the character and deeds of these war criminals,” said Izetbegović.

He announced that the SDA would initiate activities to resolve the status rights of Bosniaks in the RS entity with the aim of equalizing the rights and harmonizing the RS Constitution with the BiH Constitution.

Answering a question regarding the appointment of the director of the Indirect Taxation Authority and the BiH Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA), Izetbegović replied that he was afraid that "all this would remain unsolved, not only until these coming elections, but until the next ones in 2022".

“I am afraid that we have entered a state of deadlock, we do not understand each other, and that it will remain so for the next two years. This means that things will not change, that the incumbent officials will remain,” said Izetbegović.
