BIHAĆ, August 5 (FENA) - In last night's conflict among the migrants in Bihać city center, one person suffered serious bodily injuries and was hospitalized in the Cantonal Hospital "Dr. Irfan Ljubijankić", which was confirmed by the Police Administration of the Una-Sana Canton (USC).
“We received a report of a brawl between two people in downtown Bihać. An injured man was found at the scene and transported to the Cantonal Hospital in Bihać. The person is a foreign citizen who sustained serious bodily injuries, which were inflicted with a cold weapon, most likely a knife. We still do not have any information about the perpetrator of this crime,” said the spokesman of the USC Police, Ale Šiljdedić.
He pointed out that this was just another in a series of incidents in recent times, and that the uncontrolled daily influx of migrants significantly complicates the security situation in the Una-Sana Canton.
“We can say that this has become our everyday life, especially in Bihać, Velika Kladuša and parts of the town of Cazin. More than 100 illegal migrants arrive in the canton almost every day, and it has become increasingly difficult for them to cross the border with the Republic of Croatia.
The growing number of these people in our cities and municipalities has caused an increase in the number of crimes and incidents. The police are trying to respond to this challenge in a professional and responsible way, but we are facing a really complex situation,” added Šiljdedić.
Around 3,000 illegal migrants are currently housed in reception camps in the Una-Sana Canton, while it is estimated that more than 4,000 migrants live on the streets and in abandoned buildings in Bihać, Cazin and Velika Kladuša.
