SARAJEVO, July 11 (FENA) - Croatian President Zoran Milanović said today that Srebrenica genocide is a painful wound and a test of humanity, emphasizing the importance of showing understanding and not allowing genocide to be denied.

Milanović pointed out that the truth about genocide must be accepted.

“It did take place and it is not necessary to prove it anymore. The world knows who committed genocide in Srebrenica. For the sake of the future, but also for the sake of the present, it is important to say and accept that genocide is not and cannot be blamed on the entire Serbian people or on the Serbian people in general. Moreover, it is important to say that all the perpetrators, the real perpetrators and the chief perpetrators have not been punished yet,” Milanović emphasized.

He pointed out that it is responsibility of everyone to accept the truth and for the victims to rest in peace, but it is an even greater responsibility to accept the families of the victims and survivors as our equals, to give them faith in the existence of those human and European values.

“And let's not leave them in the captivity of the past. The victim of Srebrenica must be one of the key and well-learned lessons of European humanity, credibility and sincerity,” said Milanović in his video message.
