Exhibition of photographs presented at Srebrenica Memorial Center

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 8 (FENA) - The Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center and Foundation VII presented an exhibition aimed to contextualize the Srebrenica genocide. The exhibition, prepared by Bosnian photographer Ziyah Gafić, includes works of Paul Lowe, Ron Haviv, Tony Birtley, Gary Knight and Rod Nordland.

The curator of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, Azir Osmanović, said that Foundation VII, founded almost 20 years ago by Haviv and Knight, seeks to protect the importance of photography in research and what it means in conveying information through its activities and investments in long-term projects. Osmanović said that at the opening on July 8, delegations will be able to see the exhibition, and later it will be open to all interested, the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center announced.

"Characterizing the Srebrenica genocide by an isolated incident diminishes the nature and context of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which in reality was a war for territory, conducted with indiscriminate use of firepower against civilians, where the range of crimes against humanity was modus operandi," said the curator of the exhibition Ziyah Gafić.

The exhibition contains 80 photographs and a six-hour video, and will be part of the permanent exhibition of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, the Press Service of the Srebrenica - Potočari Memorial Center announced.
