POTOČARI, July 7 (FENA) - An exhibition of epic significance titled "Exodus", a painting opus by the maestro Safet Zec, opened tonight at the Potočari battery factory, a place where the people of Srebrenica hoped for salvation in July 1995, and instead of hope, they are now marking the 25 anniversary of their brutal execution and genocide in Srebrenica.

As an artistic response to the human tragedy and nonsense of war, the opus "Exodus" also consists of three additional cycles of works: "Hands on the Face", "Tears" and "Embraces".

Safet Zec has been weaving his emotions on these canvases for the last 20 years, driven by compassion, indignation, but also respect for human tragedies, the darkest ones that evil in humans produce, with Srebrenica, dead, innocent children, loss of fathers, sons and brothers, violently broken love stories and finally the lives that had been taken.

This impressive warning to never repeat the nonsense and depth of pain of human suffering, helped by the City of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, should be seen by everyone.

In the next three months, the exhibition will be on display in order to fulfill the obligation to Srebrenica victims and their families and to help such a tragedy to be permanently embedded in the collective memory of the entire planet.

President of the Managing Board of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, Šefket Hafizović, said that the rich opus of works inspired by human tragedy, with a focus on the Srebrenica genocide, was Safet Zec's immeasurable contribution to preserve Bosnia's tragedy and genocide from oblivion.

He pointed out that Srebrenica is a place and a symbol of suffering, but also a true symbol of survival, pride, defiance and hope to learn about the nature of the beast in the people for the sake of future generations that should study it only by studying history.

Director of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, Emir Suljagić, believes that Safet Zec's paintings have 'finally returned home'.

“The faces in these paintings are the ones I know; this can be the face of my late mother. This place means something to many, some people saw their loved ones here for the last time and they come here to say goodbye to them,” said Suljagić.
