European Union donates medical equipment to University Clinical Hospital Mostar

FENA

MOSTAR, July 6 (FENA) - The handover of ventilators, ultrasound devices and other protective equipment donated by the European Union to the University Clinical Hospital Mostar (SKB) as part of the BiH assistance program in the fight against coronavirus was held on Monday in front of the SKB Emergency Center.

Head of the European Union delegation to BiH, Johann Sattler, said on this occasion that the European Union, with this donation, once again wanted to show that it cares about Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The European Union really cares about BiH, this region and the Western Balkans, which means that we want to see you as a member of the EU. There have been some delays, Bosnia and Herzegovina has unfortunately lost time in the last 15 years, but I work hard every day to speed up the whole process and I hope that we will make up for the lost time,” said Sattler.

He stated that the donated equipment will be of good use even after the Covid-19 epidemic.

“We are donating this valuable medical equipment to the citizens of Mostar and Herzegovina region, which will be able to serve them not only in the fight against coronavirus but also after the epidemic. Our investments are large, on the one hand, we help the medical sector through donations of medical equipment in the amount of over 7 million euros, and on the other hand, we also help the economy.

The region of Herzegovina was particularly affected because it had a very developed tourism sector, which has been losing a lot of money lately, so we are active and working in this field as well, and we have set aside 70 million euros only for the economic sector,” said Sattler.

He added that BiH has been treated as one of the member states of the European Union in this whole procedure and various programs that were implemented.

“This shows the solidarity that the European Union has towards BiH and it is just another proof that the EU wants to see Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of its family. In all difficult times, when you remember the floods and all the other crises, we stood with BiH, and you can be sure that it will stay that way,” underlined Sattler.

Ambassador Sattler also sent a message, an appeal to citizens to follow the guidelines related to preventing the further spread of Covid-19 in order to preserve their own health, the health of their loved ones, but also the health of the entire community.

Prime Minister of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC), Nevenko Herceg, said that this was only part of the EU's assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina in preventing the spread of coronavirus.

“We have to thank the EU member states for helping the overall economic recovery of BiH, our canton, and especially the recovery of tourism as the most affected part of the economy in our region. I would say that the European Union is the most loyal partner to Bosnia and Herzegovina and I believe that this equipment will be of great help to the Clinical Hospital Mostar,” said Herceg.

The value of the donated ventilator is around 177,000 KM, the purchase of equipment was financed by the EU within the project implemented by UNDP BiH, and in addition to Mostar, Ambassador Sattler will also visit Trebinje today, where he will hand over two ventilators and an X-ray device to the Trebinje Hospital.
