VUKOVAR, July 6 (FENA) - The ninth Vukovar-Srebrenica Ultramarathon started this morning from the Ovčara Memorial Center to pay tribute to the victims of the Srebrenica genocide.
The leader of the "Vukovar - Srebrenica" project, Ekrem Bećirović, says that due to the coronavirus epidemic, the marathoners will run only the first stage from Ovčara to Vinkovci.
“Unfortunately, we are not going to Srebrenica due to the current epidemiological situation, but in this way we want to mark the 25th anniversary of the genocide and send a message that we will never forget Srebrenica,” Bećirović said in a statement to FENA.
Marathoners Robert Lasumović, Dražen Ćućić, Elvir Rakipović and Dusko Štrbac are participating in the ultramarathon, and there are a total of 12 runners who will run the first stage.
The intention of the organizers is to remember all the innocent victims during the Serbian aggression on the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and especially to pay tribute to the victims of Vukovar and Srebrenica.
