SARAJEVO, July 3 (FENA) - On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, the City of Sarajevo in cooperation with the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center and Safet Zec Atelier will present exhibition of great art cycle "Exodus” by the famous painter Safet Zec in Potočari on July 7.
The opus also consists of three additional cycles of works - "Hands on the face", "Tears" and "Embraces" and they were transported to Potočari from Italy, with the support of the City of Sarajevo.
The author has been working on these canvases for the last 20 years, inspired by reverence for human tragedies - the tragedy of Srebrenica, the tragic love saga of Sarajevo's Romeo and Juliet, Boško and Admira, and the theme of departure and escape, with a focus on children as special victims, in which the triptych “Child” inspired by the famous story of the injured boy Alan alludes to the contemporary tragedy of migrants.
Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka said at a press conference today that "our obligation to the victims and their families to permanently incorporate the tragedy in Srebrenica into the collective memory, to remember, remind, warn".
“But also to point out how important and how much it is possible to build and promote peace, mutual respect and open dialogue on a daily basis, which we need today more than ever,” the Mayor of Sarajevo pointed out.
He emphasized that the mutual cooperation between the City of Sarajevo and the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center contributes to the process of transitional justice in BiH and the region, the fight against denial of war crimes and final verdicts and the prevention of revisionism.
Director of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, Emir Suljagić, said it is extremely important to start gathering important names of BiH art around the Memorial Center.
Recalling that he himself, as a newborn baby, was in his mother's arms in exile in 1943, maestro Safet Zec explained his continuing fascination with "the image of the mother or her hand squeezing and tightening that living or non-living being, as idea of his permanent painting profession ".
At the press conference, BH Post also presented a postage stamp with the motif of the art work "Embraces” by maestro Safet Zec, which will be released on the opening day of the exhibition.
The art cycle "Exodus" will be officially presented on Tuesday, July 7, starting at 5 pm in the former battery factory in Potočari, and the exhibition will be available to the public for three-month period.

“We believe that the memory of the genocide in Srebrenica must be our permanent mission and that it is the obligation of every public and responsible media to support all activities in that direction,” said Huremović.
