BANOVIĆI, July 1 (FENA) - The FBiH Prime Minister Fadil Novalić said today in Banovići, after visiting the local coal mine, that RMU Banovici is one of the most important mines that is profitable, while some others have problems.
He pointed out that the Government should secure new investments in the mine, find new buyers and re-launch the initiative for the construction of a thermal block that would ensure the long-term operation of RMU Banovići.
“In this mandate of the FBiH Government, there is a significant program for the restructuring of the mine, and it is expected that we pass a law on this matter,” said Novalić.
He added that this was his second visit to the mines, after the one in Zenica, in which they presented the government's policies, look at the prospects for the mines and convey to the EU's position on the mines, which are not very positive.
“We must be aware that no community depends on mines like Banovići and we will not make moves that would endanger any of the employees,” stated Novalić.
The FBiH Minister of Energy, Mining and Industry, Nermin Džindić, emphasized that it was agreed today with the mine management that the debt of RMU Banovići from the previous period would be settled.
Acting director of RMU Banovići, Fadil Kudumović, said that the mine has operated positively for the first time after the war in the first half of the year.
He added that the problem is that the previous management signed contracts for the purchase of equipment for the mine for which it did not provide financing, and the deadline for the payment of the advance is due in seven days.
President of the Supervisory Board of RMU Banovići Bego Birparić specified that the mine is moving from the phase of shallow mines to deeper mines, which is why it is necessary to change the technology in the next three years, with total investments of 107 million KM, and some of the activities have already begun.
