SARAJEVO, July 1 (FENA) - Germany will fight for the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, German Ambassador to BiH Margret Uebber told N1 today, on the occasion of Germany’s takeover of the presidency of the European Union for the period of the next six months.
Germany is taking over the presidency for the 13th time, and Webber says each presidency was different, with a focus on different issues.
“Now, we are going to deal with coronavirus crisis. We hope to develop a vaccine to solve this problem permanently. In addition, we will address the economic and social consequences of that crisis.
Not only do we want to combat this virus, but we also want to improve economic development after a pandemic. We will try to bring Europe out of the crisis permanently and sustainably. We will also work on strengthening the pillars of law on which the European Union was built. We will also deal with digital transformation. The motto of our presidency is "Together for Europe",” said Uebber.
She announced that Bosnia and Herzegovina would receive 80 million euros of assistance in an effort to mitigate the consequences of the crisis.
“As for the accession negotiations for Bosnia and Herzegovina, they will be the focus of our interest. We will fight for BiH's European path and that will be one of the important topics during our presidency. It is clear that there will be no shortcuts or special paths. BiH will have to adhere to everything that has been prescribed,” Ambassador Uebber said in an interview with N1.
