SARAJEVO, June 30 (FENA) - Today, the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH, with six votes in favor and one invalid ballot, elected Željko Bakalar as the new president of the CEC. His opponent was Vlado Rogić.

The new president was elected from among the members of the CEC of BiH from the ranks of the Croat people.

Bakalar, who will take office on July 1, will replace current CEC BiH President Vanja Bjelica-Prutina.

One member of the Central Election Commission of BiH from the ranks of Croats, Bosniaks, Serbs, and a member from the ranks of others perform the function of the president of that commission on the principle of rotation, once in seven years, for a period of 21 months.

Bakalar, after being elected, said it is a great honor for him, but also a great obligation and responsibility.

He stated that the CEC BiH, even in such circumstances of the epidemic and the situation that they have not yet been provided with funds, will continue to work with the coordination and cooperation of CEC members.

“I especially want to emphasize that I expect transparency in the work of the institution, that the public, citizens, voters and all political actors know what we are doing in the coming period. I think that will help a lot in our work,” said Bakalar.
