Djapo: Travel bans can be motivation to spend holidays in our beautiful country

SARAJEVO, June 28 (FENA) - FBiH Ministry of Environment and Tourism will propose to the FBiH Government several models on how to motivate BiH citizens to spend holidays in their country, and one option is to provide interest-free loans for a year or two.

Information on these models will be proposed by the line Minister Edita Djapo next week in order to help the tourism sector as soon as possible.

Djapo told FENA that the Ministry is considering, in addition to loans, the option of vouchers.

She praised the Slovenian voucher model but said the model cost 350 million euros.

“They offered 200 euros to adults and 50 euros to children. That will give good results, but we do not have such a large fund,” said Djapo.

Commenting on the decisions of Croatia and Montenegro regarding the entry of people from Bosnia and Herzegovina into their countries, she said that it could be a good motivation for BiH citizens to spend their holidays in our beautiful country, emphasizing that this year's tourist season can be saved.

She said that, according to information from hoteliers, guests from Serbia are very interested in spending their vacation in Neum and the Una National Park.

She also believes that it is very important to allow the unimpeded entry of all tourists in BiH, in order to save the business of hoteliers.

“We need tourists who come from the EU, Turkey and Arab countries, and that is how we would save mountain tourism because a lot of tourists come to visit our mountains,” said Djapo.

She thinks that the tourism sector was the first to feel the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic because tourists started canceling arrangements from the beginning.

The Government of the Federation of BiH adopted the "corona law" which, among other sectors, helped tourism. The law, which will be in force until the end of July, was the first step of the Government to stabilize the economy.

After the "expiration" of this law, announced Djapo, a budget revision will be made.

“We should all get some funds back then, considering that the entire stabilization fund was not spent on what we planned. That is very good because we see that the economy of the Federation of BiH is on quite solid feet,” stated Djapo.
