SARAJEVO, June 25 (FENA) - Deputies of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina (PSBiH) at today's session rejected the Bill on the termination of the mandate of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH in its current composition.

Deputy of the Serb Caucus, Dušanka Majkić (SNSD), stated in the discussion that preceded the vote that the proposed law does not meet any of the conditions for adoption, and it is not stated who was consulted during the drafting of the law and the opinion of the institutions.

“SNSD clearly said that when this law appeared, the laws adopted by the ‘Adil group’ in the House of Representatives will not pass in the House of Peoples,” Majkić added.

The draft law on the termination of the mandate of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH in its current composition, which was previously adopted by the House of Representatives on the proposal of Serb Democratic Party (SDS) MP Dragan Mektić, foresaw that the mandate of the Council would end on June 15, 2020.

By June 8 at the latest, judicial bodies, bar associations and BiH institutions that elect members to the Council, in accordance with the Law on the HJPC, are obliged to conduct the procedure of electing new members of the Council, the proposed law states.
