SARAJEVO, June 24 (FENA) - The BiH Ministry of Defense and the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo will continue cooperation in all segments that contribute to building defense sector and improving activities related to the NATO integration path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH Defense Minister Sifet Podžić said today after meeting with Commander of the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, Brigadier General William J. Edwards.
The officials discussed the current challenges and the improvement of cooperation in the coming period between the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH and the NATO headquarters in BiH.
Podžić expressed concern and dissatisfaction with reduction of the planned budget of the Ministry of Defense for 2020, which will hinder the implementation of the document Reform Program adopted by NATO in Brussels in December 2019, as well as the planned process of modernization of the BiH Armed Forces.
“Despite that, we will continue to fulfill the obligations from the Reform Program, which do not require a lot of money, and we already have results in the process of registering prospective military assets, regional cooperation and some other segments,” Podžić added.
He once again thanked General Edwards for support provided by the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo to the MoD and the AFBiH, and stressed his firm commitment to improving cooperation with the NATO Headquarters.
General Edwards offered the assistance of the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo and gave support to the activities of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH in order to achieve full interoperability with NATO member countries, the Ministry of Defense of BiH announced.
