Zvizdić: Projects aiming to weaken BiH's state-building capacities won't succeed

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 14 (FENA) - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly and Vice President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Denis Zvizdić said that the BiH Parliament, as the highest legislative body in the fight against the pandemic, could act in two ways - by supporting laws and through economic measures and projects that should have been submitted to the parliamentary procedure by the BiH Council of Ministers, which had not happened.

"So far, no material of this kind has been sent from the BiH Council of Ministers to the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, or through draft laws, measures and initiatives sent by parliamentary caucuses or individual MPs, which we had at each session, and which is mostly accepted in the House of Representatives but unfortunately it all gets rejected in the House of Peoples," said Zvizdić in an interview ith Fokus.ba.

He says that a good example is a rejection to adopt amendments to a number of laws and initiatives in the House of Peoples, such as the VAT law, which were aimed at helping the real sector in mitigating the consequences of the pandemic.

Zvizdić believes that it is a surprising and worrying fact that the BiH Council of Ministers is the only government in the region, Europe and the world that has not adopted any set of healthcare and economic measures to strengthen public health and mitigate economic damage caused by the pandemic.

According to him, the essence of the problem is not in the ministers themselves, because, as he said, most members of the BiH Council of Ministers are professionals with extensive work experience, but in the fact that "processes are led and directed by political parties that do not want strong, stable and functional country".

"So, the basis of such blockades, in which we see attempts of the entity and even the cantonal level trying to impose themselves as if they were states, are projects that aim to weaken the state-building capacities of BiH, and are continuous attempts to disintegrate and reduce BiH to a geographical concept," underlines Zvizdić, adding that such projects will fail, because the pro-Bosnian forces are strong enough to prevent it.

He further points out that BiH, like other countries in the world, was not ready for the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and adds that the pandemic has brought to light the structural and obviously long-term problems of the economy in BiH. Instead of the projected economic growth of BiH of over three percent in 2020, a large drop in GDP can be expected with great certainty.

Speaking about the elections, he emphasizes that they are crucial, and this is the official position of the SDA, that local elections have to be held, especially in Mostar, "whose citizens have been waiting for this feast of democracy for more than a decade and for investments, tourism, cultural, educational, sports and social potentials of Mostar and the entire region finally be put in operation."

Regarding the resignation of Fahrudin Radončić and the appointment of a new Minister of Security of BiH, Zvizdić points out that Radončić performed his duty very responsibly and successfully, that he was the most engaged minister in the Council of Ministers of BiH both domestically and internationally, and expressed regret for his resignation.

"As the public has already been informed, the SDA, meanwhile, has nominated Mr. Selmo Cikotic for the post of BiH the Minister of Security, as a prominent and respected member of the SDA who has recognizable integrity, rich experience and necessary knowledge and skills, and for whom we are sure will successfully respond to the challenges and problems he will face in his mandate," stated Zvizdić.
