SARAJEVO, June 8 (FENA) - Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turković today received humanitarian aid from the People's Republic of China intended to help Bosnia and Herzegovina fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Minister Turković said that this is shipment of 42.000 masks, whose donor is the Children's Choir from the Chinese city of Wuxi, whose members came to visit BiH before the pandemic.
“They liked BiH very much and when the pandemic broke out, they wanted to send help to children in Sarajevo, to a school near the Chinese Embassy in BiH," said Turković.
She pointed out that this is a symbolic help, because these children collected from their pocket money in order to buy these masks.
“Neither the state nor the humanitarian organization is behind the donation, but big hearts of these children,” said Turković.
She added that children from the choir wrote a letter to the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Šefik Džaferović, which was handed over by the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to BiH, Yi Ping, to Minister Turkovic.
She also pointed out that this is not the first aid that arrived from China.
Speaking about the humanitarian aid that arrived in BiH during the pandemic, Turković said that the Ministry is only a mediator who receives the aid, after which the aid is forwarded to the Coordination Body operating within the BiH Ministry of Security.
Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to BiH, Yi Ping, who handed over the humanitarian aid, said that the donation is very special, because it was not a donation from the Government of China or a company, but from children who bought 42.000 masks.
“At the beginning of March, they received information that the coronavirus also exists in BiH, which worried them, so they bought masks at the beginning of April,” said the Ambassador, adding that due to transportation difficulties, help arrived only today.
He emphasized that China has so far donated six ventilators, more than 40.000 masks, a large number of tests and protective suits to BiH, and announced a donation of 10.000 tests for coronavirus and other donations.
