MOSTAR, June 5 (FENA) - President of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) BiH, Dragan Čović said that the relations between Croats and Bosniaks must be eased and that there is no reason to constantly cause tensions and crises.
In an interview with 'Večernji list', on the occasion of 15 years as the president of the party, Čović pointed out that all three peoples in BiH must cooperate, rejecting accusations that he is more on the side of Serbs than Bosniaks.
He says he resents Bosniak politics for wanting to manage all processes in BiH which sends out bad messages to Croats, citing the election of members of the BiH Central Election Commission as an obvious example.
“To me, this is a bigger scandal than all the others, if we know what the role of that institution is. If someone dares to completely ignore the competition procedure without an agreement with anyone from the partners with whom they share power, they end everything and appoint five members of the CEC, a clear message is sent,” Čović says, adding that the ultimate goal is to create preconditions for the outvoting of the Croat people in the election of a member of the Presidency of BiH and the imposition of you own will in the House of Peoples.”
He criticized the representatives of the international community for “keeping silent and bowing their heads to the violations of the constitution and the laws in BiH, as was the case with the election of the CEC members.”
Speaking about the potential successor at the position of the HDZ BiH president, Čović stated that the party there has a significant number of those who "meet all the standards that a young person should have nowadays if they want to be engaged in politics. I do not want to talk about the names of the candidates who could take over the leadership of the HDZ in two or three years, because attacks and pressure would be directed at them," said Čović.
