SARAJEVO, May 29 (FENA) - The European Union Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered representatives of European countries in BiH, EU founding states and newer members for a debate in Sarajevo on the occasion of the anniversary of the European Commission's Opinion on Bosnia and Herzegovina's application for membership. EU.

Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH and the EU Special Representative in BiH, Johann Sattler, reminded in a statement to the media before the meeting that the opinion gave 14 priorities and tasks to Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that "nothing has been done in BiH for 11 months."

“After 11 months, there has been a shift. Not only at the level of the Presidency of BiH, but also at the level of the Council of Ministers, at the level of the Parliament, and most importantly at the level of civil society,” he emphasized.

BiH Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović said that Bosnia and Herzegovina wants all 14 priorities to be realized as soon as possible, as stated in the European Commission's Opinion on Bosnia and Herzegovina's request for candidate status.

He reminds that the future enlargement package has been postponed from June to autumn and emphasizes the wish that "BiH will do everything it can to improve our status during the enlargement package, when it comes to our joining the EU and to get candidate status."

“Western Balkans is part of Europe. There is no complete EU without the membership of all Western Balkan countries in the EU. I expect that, with somewhat increased attention from the EU and greater activism, we in BiH will come to a situation to get candidate status as soon as possible, after that we will open negotiations and become a member of the European Union,” he emphasized.

He expressed appreciation to Ambassador Sattler and the ambassadors of EU member states for helping Bosnia and Herzegovina 'unblock its European path'.

German Ambassador to BiH Margret Uebber also pointed out that it would be most important for BiH to work on the implementation of 14 EU priorities, and emphasized support in that process of the European Union and Germany, which will take over the EU presidency on July 1.

Swedish Ambassador to BiH Johanna Strömquist also emphasized the support of member states to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path to the EU, while the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to BiH Ivana Hlavsova reminded of the Czech experiences on the European path.
