ZENICA, May 27 (FENA) - The company ArcelorMittal Zenica (AMZ) is gradually preparing plants for operation, and the workers who were temporarily suspended from work are returning to their jobs, AMZ Spokesperson Alena Kahrimanović confirmed in a statement for FENA.

“The blast furnace will be put into operation again today, May 27, and tomorrow we expect the normalization of the work of all plants, except the rolling mills. The rolling mills will start working in June,” Kahrimanović points out.

The Zenica company sent about 2,400 workers on a ‘waiting period’ on May 19, and yesterday the employees of the Steel Department returned to work.

The company's union refused to give consent for the reduction of salaries higher than 1.200 KM or sending workers on a ‘waiting period’, which was the plan of the Management to mitigate the consequences caused by the coronavirus pandemic, which reduced demand for AMZ products.

According to the assessment made at the press conference by President of the AMZ Trade Union, Zuhdija Kapetanović, about 1,700 workers of that company were temporarily suspended from work.
