SARAJEVO, May 19 (FENA) - Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić received today in an official visit the Commander of the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, Brigadier General William Edwards.
NATO Commander Edwards was interested in the activities of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) and the Armed Forces of BiH (AF BiH) in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed his condolences to Podžić over death of a member of the AFBiH who died last week from coronavirus infection.
Podžić thanked NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo for recent donations of protective equipment, as well as North Atlantic Alliance member countries for sending their assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina through the mechanisms of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center (EADRCC).
Minister Podžić stated that so far 11 members of the MoD and the AFBiH have tested positive for COVID-19 virus. In addition to the aforementioned death, eight of them have recovered and two are still positive. The activities of the AFBiH in peace support operations in Afghanistan, Mali, Congo and the Central African Republic continues normally and none of the members of the AFBiH in these missions is infected.
Commander Edwards congratulated Podžić on the protection measures taken in the MoD and the AFBiH, as well as the fact that the infection did not enter the AFBiH barracks. He offered any further support from his side, the Press Service of the Ministry of Defense of BiH announced.
