Radončić: I will not allow new center for migrants to be built in Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, May 18 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina and President of the Alliance for a Better Future (SBB) Fahrudin Radončić confirmed today that a session of the BiH Council of Ministers with more than a hundred items on the agenda will be held on Thursday, May 21.

“However, whether the budget will be one of the items on the agenda will depend on the consultations that are conducted primarily at the level of party presidents (SNSD, HDZ and SDA). We all care that the budget, which is now significantly amended and adjusted to the situation during and after the pandemic, is adopted and sent for further procedure,” Radončić added.

He referred to the announcement of BiH Council of Ministers Chairman Zoran Tegletija that BiH borders could be opened on June 1, recalling that BiH coordinated border closures with the region and neighboring countries, and that the issue should be discussed at a session of the Council of Ministers on Thursday.

He underlined that it is extremely important to open the borders in order to ensure the movement of business people, but the Council of Ministers should do so in accordance with the assessment of the medical profession.

When asked about holding of this year's elections, he said that it was not a bad option for him to merge the local elections, which should be held in October, with the general elections in two years, so that BiH would not be in a permanent election campaign.

On the other hand, he is of the opinion that elections are not a priority at the moment, reiterating his position on election theft in the past few election cycles.

“In two years, we could first depoliticize the Central Election Commission (CEC), and then organize fair and honest elections. It is more important whether the elections will be organized in a fair way than whether they will be in two or three months,” Radončić believes.

He commented on the issue of migration, saying that migrants from Greece, 100.000 of them, can be expected to go to Croatia via BiH, and announced that he would advocate a firm approach to discouraging migrants from coming to BiH and legally deport those who are already in BiH.

“I will not allow a new camp to be built in Sarajevo that should accommodate 3.000 migrants because we already have 3.000 migrants. The whole of Serbia has about 6.000 migrants. We cannot allow 10, 20 or 30 thousand migrants to come to the area where Bosniaks live,” he said.

When it comes to cooperation with FRONTEX (European Border and Coast Guard Agency), Radončić reiterated that it has been stopped by BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik, but work on that issue is in progress, but he believes that this will not solve the migration issue.

“The problem of migrants is a global problem and the countries of the European Union should harmonize their policy, but we will not allow for BiH to be a plateau for migrants,” Radončić underlined.

As he emphasized, migrants stay in BiH for a year or two, which he called a security threat not only for BiH but also for EU countries.

Speaking about resolving the issue of the lack of border police officers, he said that the Council of Ministers and the European Commission had been asked to allocate funds for the employment of 300 or 400 border police officers, and that was going well, even though BiH lacks 1.000 of them.
