Protest march in Mostar: Elections must take place

FENA

MOSTAR, May 17 (FENA) - Citizens of Mostar took part in a peaceful protest march on Saturday, expressing disappointment and discontent with the decision of the Central Election Commission (CEC) and pointing out the need to hold elections in that city.

The organizer of the protest march that started from the North Camp was the civic initiative "Because it concerns us", whose members said that they did not want to allow Mostar to be a city without elections this time as well.

"We were disappointed to learn that the Central Election Commission again did not call elections for the Council of the City of Mostar. We are organizing the walk because of the situation in Mostar, because of the lack of elections, the non-existence of the City Administration where we have a situation that it is impossible to solve any of our problems and all other problems that the City of Mostar has faced all this time," said the head of the initiative Omer Hujdur.

He said that they are decisive not to allow a "handful of people" to decide their fate.

"We will no longer put up with the arbitrariness of politicians. The fate of this city is in the hands of 'a handful of people' and we will not allow them to decide on our fate and the fate of our children in the next four years," said Hujdur.

The protest march, which started from the Spanish Square, was organized by the Mostar City Board of the Platform for Progress, and its participants also expressed dissatisfaction with the CEC decision and said that the will of the citizens of Mostar must be shown in the elections.

"For ten years now, the two leading nationalist parties have been negotiating and cannot find a solution and I think they will never agree. The Platform for Progress has recognized the importance of Mostar and we are of the opinion that as Mostar is regulated, the same will apply for BiH as a whole," said a member of the Political Council of the Platform for Progress Edin Batlak.

He reminded that the party offered a document earlier this year that includes principles and solutions for the political organization of the city of Mostar.

"We believe that we have a long-term solution and that the shackles that hold the City of Mostar must be removed once and for all, because this city has all the preconditions to be the best and most developed city in all of BiH," said Batlak.
