SARAJEVO, May 14 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Fahrudin Radončić talked via video link with Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Austria Karl Nehammer today about the migrant crisis, problems caused by the pandemic and cooperation between security agencies of the two countries.
Radončić pointed out that BiH needs the help of the European Union in strengthening the capacities of the BiH Border Police, equipping and employing the much needed additional border police officers so that they can effectively protect the border.
He underlined that BiH cannot be turned into a "parking lot" for illegal migrants and that it is necessary to set a quota in accordance with the financial capabilities of the state, emphasizing that BiH can handle and efficiently manage a maximum of 6,000 migrants and that the burden should be divided among the entities.
Minister Nehammer shared the concern that the identity of illegal migrants has not been established. There are currently more than 9,000 migrants in BiH. In that context, he agrees with Minister Radončić's migrant plan regarding their checks, due to possible security and terrorist threats.
Ministers Radončić and Nehammer assessed the current situation in the fight against coronavirus as positive in both countries, and discussed plans for the gradual lifting of restrictive measures, especially in the context of economic recovery, stated the BiH Ministry of Security.
