SARAJEVO, May 12 (FENA) - The plateau in front of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo was the place from which tourist buses departed towards many world destinations.
Today, tourist buses were parked in front of the National Museum, and suitcases laid out in front, but there were no passengers ready to embark on a new destination or to visit some places they have already seen.
Empty buses in front of the National Museum of BiH then rode the streets of Sarajevo, in order for carriers, travel agencies and hoteliers to draw attention to the very difficult economic situation in the tourism sector caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The president of the Association of Travel Agencies in BiH, Zoran Bibanović, said that this gathering was a support to the tourism sector.
He added that they have already sent their requests to the institutions in charge of tourism, namely the Federation of BiH, the cantons and the Republika Srpska, and that they expect their reaction.
He says that this gathering came as a follow-up of what their colleagues in the region did, and have organized events in support of their tourism.
Bibanović pointed out that BiH cherishes the longest tradition as a tourist destination in the Balkans.
"We are not satisfied with the country's attitude that goes back a few decades after the war towards the cultural, natural values of BiH, which could very quickly bring us into European trends. We claim that we can become a tourism superpower," stated Bibanović.
Asked if it is possible to talk about the damage to the tourism, as a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic, Bibanović said that it was "already clinically dead".
"It is clinically dead and it must be reset after the end of this pandemic, but not all liabilities and obligations can be placed on the agencies themselves. The essence of the business of travel agencies must be understood because they make up the most important factor in tourism," Bibanović pointed out.
