BANJA LUKA, May 12 (FENA) - President of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) Milorad Dodik confirmed that the "SNSD, as the largest political party in the Republika Srpska, today asked Prime Minister Radovan Višković to launch an initiative to lift the state of emergency in that entity, which was introduced in the month of April due to the outbreak of coronavirus."

According to Dodik, "the government will discuss the issue at the next session."

"It will be on Thursday, May 14, when the Government session is held, and in the coming days, the RS National Assembly will make a decision on lifting the state of emergency," Dodik said in a statement to reporters in Banja Luka.

A measure of emergency situation will remain in force, as he said, because of the possibility of reintroducing some of the measures if the epidemic of the coronavirus escalates again.

Today, he attended the celebration of the Day of the RS Army (VRS) and the Third Infantry (RS) Regiment of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Kozara Barracks and reiterated claims that the dismantling of the VRS was a mistake, but that he was aware of the "circumstances and pressure that led to this".

The VRS existed until January 2006, after which it became part of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Dodik added that "the Serb people will never forget the NATO bombing during the war in BiH", and that they "will continue to celebrate the Day of the establishment of the VRS."
