SARAJEVO, May 8 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Šefik Džaferović congratulated May 9 - the Day of Victory over Fascism, Europe Day and the Golden Lilies Day.
As he stated, the Day of Victory over Fascism is one of the most significant dates in recent history. On that day in 1945, the European nations finally, with the help of their allies, militarily conquered Nazi and fascist projects.
“On the foundations of that struggle, on the same date five years later, the foundations were laid for the formation of the European Union, as the most important peace and economic project, based on unity and cooperation. This is the date when we need to remind of the long history of anti-fascism in Bosnia and Herzegovina, based on the tradition of living together,” said Džaferović.
He underlined that it should never be forgotten that Bosnia and Herzegovina was the place of struggle of the largest anti-fascist resistance movement in Europe. This is not accidental, because the fight against fascism is in the very nature and essence of this state, and it is a condition for its survival.
This day also marks the Day of Golden Lilies, said Džaferović, when we honor and remember the best and bravest sons of this country, who showed special courage fighting in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the survival of the state.
“This army not only defended Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also defended the ideas and values on which the civilized world is based - freedom, living together in peace and democracy. And we should be always proud of that,” stressed Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Šefik Džaferović.
