SARAJEVO, May 7 (FENA) - Vanja Bjelica-Prutina, President of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH), said today at a press conference in Sarajevo that CEC BiH adopted the Decision to call and hold the 2020 Local Elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which will be held on Sunday, October 4.

She added that for the first time in the local elections in BiH, the mayor of the City of East Sarajevo will be elected directly, in accordance with the amendments to the Election Law of Republika Srpska.

“The Central Election Commission of BiH informs the public that the election of councilors in the Council of the City of Mostar will be announced after acquiring the necessary conditions for announcing and holding the elections,” Bjelica-Prutina pointed out.

She stated that CEC BiH adopted the Decision on the conclusion of the Central Voters’ Register with the status as of May 6, 2020 at 24.00. The total number of registered voters in the Central Voters’ Register is 3.374.364.

Bjelica-Prutina said that the registration of voters who vote outside BiH will be conducted on the basis of PRP1 and PRP2 forms for this election.

CEC BiH President added that preparatory activities for the 2020 Local Elections and the realization that was conditioned by financial assets could not be implemented. This resulted in the fact that the Central Election Commission of BiH did not adopt today the Instruction on deadlines and sequence of election activities, which is usually adopted on the day of calling the elections.

“By not adopting the budget of BiH institutions, the Central Election Commission was prevented from initiating the most important public procurement procedures in a timely manner,” Bjelica-Prutina underlined.

She added that it is necessary to provide around 4.2 million KM in the budget of BiH institutions for the activities carried out by the CEC of BiH, and that the local elections should cost around nine million KM.
