Italy helps BiH during the coronavirus pandemic

SARAJEVO, May 6 (FENA) - The International Committee for the Development of Peoples (CISP), NGO RE.TE.ONG and Save the Children, organizations implementing projects supported by the Italian Government in BiH, have joined their efforts to address the needs of BiH citizens caused by the coronavirus pandemic, with the support of the Italian Embassy in BiH and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS).

Italian Ambassador to BiH Nicola Minasi said that Bosnia and Herzegovina was one of the first countries to offer solidarity to Italy in the most difficult days of the pandemic.

“Today, our country returns solidarity with an integrated and tailored program with concrete initiatives,” he said, presenting a program of initiatives for health cooperation between Italy and BiH in the fight against coronavirus.

In coordination with the United Nations, based on the specific requests of the BiH authorities and health professionals, Italy offered the services of its two EUFOR-ALTHEA military doctors to the Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Two doctors who have already experienced epidemiological reactions will be at the service of the European Forces, working directly with local authorities and visiting hospitals.

Furthermore, the World Health Organization office in Sarajevo, the UN and the Italian Embassy organized a video conference between Italian experts and BiH doctors and healthcare professionals to share experiences and best practices on the coronavirus pandemic.

Under the auspices of the joint campaign #BeatingTogether, CISP, RE.TE. ONG, and Save the Children have engaged in the delivery of humanitarian assistance. The first packages, with food and hygiene products, have already arrived and distributed to socially vulnerable families in BiH, with accompanying educational materials on infection control.

CISP in BiH is implementing the project Biodiversity for Local Development. An innovative model of participatory management of Konjuh's protected landscape in Bosnia and Herzegovina / BioSvi, aimed at enhancing the protection and valorization of the environment and biodiversity, promoting social inclusion and enhancing sustainable economic development.

RE.TE. ONG in BiH has engaged in improving the health care system for cancer treatment, introducing medical and preventive EU standards through the current project 'From Awareness to Protection: Women Holding the Right to Health in Bosnia and Herzegovina'.

Save the Children in BiH is implementing the Inclusion for All - Inclusive Education for All Children project in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Tuzla Canton, which aims to enable children with disabilities to develop their full potential and fully enjoy the right to education and social inclusion, Save the Children stated.
