SARAJEVO, May 4 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić expressed regret today that representatives of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) in the BiH institutions did not attend the first meeting of the Working Group on BiH's path to the EU integration in the BiH Presidency.

The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with representatives from the European Union, agreed to form this political working group with the aim of initiating reform processes in BiH and realizing the 14 priorities from the European Commission's Opinion.

"The question why the HDZ representatives did not attend the meeting should be addressed to the Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Johann Sattler, who had a meeting with the champion of European integration champion just a few days ago," Komšić added, alluding to the meeting between the HDZ leader Dragan Čović and Sattler that took place in Mostar.

He confirmed that they discussed the Committee on European Integration in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly that has not yet been formed. In the previous convocation as well, the setup of this committee was disputed because of requests to introduce the controversial entity voting within the committee, but the EU representatives at the time said it was a practice that was unknown to them and that they were explicitly against it.

"It still remains as one of the 14 conditions to be fulfilled. There are easier and more difficult conditions to obtain a candidate status. The more difficult conditions are those that require amendments to the Constitution and implementation of judgments of the European Court of Human Rights," he explained.

He noted that if we want to join the EU, the conditions set by the European Commission should be respected, and not for BiH to dictate the steps for the EU.

The working group is a broad political body that will meet in the BiH Presidency and, where appropriate, assist in addressing specific issues related to BiH's EU path, and will be tasked with ensuring that processes within BiH go ahead and reach as broader a consensus as possible.
