Čerkez: We will gradually ease measures

SARAJEVO, May 4 (FENA) - The results achieved so far in the fight against coronavirus make us happy, but also cautious, because we need to keep monitoring in the next period, said a member of the Crisis Staff of the FBiH Ministry of Health and Assistant Minister of Public Health Goran Čerkez today.

The liberalization of the measures has begun, Čerkez added, but in the coming period it will have to be monitored as it reflects on the number of new positive cases.

“What is certain is that the epidemic is not over and it will surely continue to be new cases, however they will hopefully be controlled, but it depends on all of us, as much as we respect the prescribed measures - social distance, wearing a mask and gloves, and hand washing. We need to become aware that we now live a different way of life than we have lived before. Today is a day without a single positive case, there are more recovered cases and this is all the result of the measures taken so far,” said Čerkez during the addressing of the representatives of the Government of the Federation of BiH.

According to the analyses and comparisons performed, he added that when one considers the number of positives per million population, BiH is almost immediately behind Montenegro with an indicator of 56, while Montenegro has 51.3 positives per million population. If one considers the number of deaths, BiH has a 2.26 mortality rate, with a mortality rate of 1.51 in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and 3.57 in the RS. Compared to some European countries where the death toll is extremely high and much higher than it is in BiH.

Čerkez said that liberalization will go in phases and some measures are already being considered this week, so it is expected that public transport and kindergartens will start working very soon in order to have the dynamics that are expected, that is, to return to a largely normal life by the end of May, so in June we would be more relieved but still very cautious.

“In particular, we urge employers to take care and to be responsible, not to let non-protective persons into their shops and facilities because they are also responsible for this. Therefore, we urge for more attention of all subjects and people in the coming period,” emphasized Čerkez.

According to him, the holidays went well, which may have been due to the bad weather, so that very few people went to some larger gatherings, that is, to gatherings at all and therefore the measures were respected.
