SARAJEVO, May 3 (FENA) - The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of BiH (SSSBiH) emphasized, on the occasion of the International Labor Day - May 1, that BiH citizens deserve decent work and that concrete measures are needed at all levels of government to overcome the current state of affairs in which the workers find themselves due to the crisis caused by the pandemic of coronavirus.

“All workers must be guaranteed the right to bargain collectively. This is a time for collaboration in order to fund social protection for all. They must not turn their backs on those who need help the most,” said President of SSSBiH Selvedin Šatorović at a press conference at the BiH Union Trade House building in Sarajevo.

He believes that there must be major investments in public health and care on ensuring that everyone has access and full respect for workers' rights.

The goal, he says, must be full employment, with decent work for all, the formalization of informal work and the elimination of precarious work.

“The antidote to this crisis lies in the solidarity that is the most important part of the union, throughout history and today. We must work together to overcome the initial wave of COVID-19, to prepare for the future. Wherever we are and whatever our differences are, we live in one world. Unions know that solidarity works. We have to do this for the whole world,” emphasized Šatorović.
