Radončić: My proposal to tackle the migrant crisis will not be supported

SARAJEVO, April 24 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Security, Fahrudin Radončić, said that it is clear that his proposal to tackle the migrant crisis and "to deport all illegal migrants who do not want to show their identity in BiH" will not be supported.

“This was demonstrated by today's reaction of BiH Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović and BiH Foreign Minister Bisera Turković, who received Pakistan's Ambassador to BiH Muhammad Khalid Rao. In doing so, they have taken on a completely different concept of resolving this issue than mine. I am sorry that Džaferović favors the interest of illegal economic migrants who do not want to respect the institutions of this country and the police structures to reveal their identity instead of protecting the interests of BiH citizens, which is his constitutional and moral obligation,” said Radončić.

He stressed that there were 9,000 illegal migrants from Pakistan in BiH last year and that there are currently 3,000 in migrant centers, and probably another 2,000 in private accommodation. Ninety-eight percent do not want to show their identity to BiH security authorities.

“Džaferović could easily check all this information at the Ministry of Security and the Foreigners’ Affairs Service, and I am sorry that he trusted more in the statement of one ambassador than the BiH Ministry of Security. In my statements there was no offense towards the ambassador, and there is still the possibility that I will request that he be declared "persona non grata",” said Radončić.

He explained why he thinks there was no cooperation with the Ambassador of Pakistan.

“He was with me at the end of January and with the Director of the Foreigners’ Affairs Service and at both meetings he said that he did not want to cooperate on the deportation of their illegal migrants because they have a decision by the Pakistani Parliament not to deal with citizens who left the country. In that sense, the Ambassador did not show any cooperation and good will,” Radončić concluded at today's extraordinary press conference in Sarajevo.
