BIHAĆ, April 21 (FENA) – The police of the Una-Sana Canton this morning has begun the operation of relocating migrants and refugees to a newly opened reception camp at Lipa site, located between Bihać and Bosanski Petrovac.

A group of 120 migrants who have previously stayed at the stadium of the Jedinstvo Football Club and the nearby city promenade in Bihać have already passed through the triage tents at the entrance to the camp.

“This is only the first phase of this process of relocation of people, who did not have any accommodation in the city of Bihać, and it has been completed. We will continue to work every day to relocate all people from abandoned facilities and from the streets and to provide them with dignified living conditions. Thanks to everyone who supported the construction of this campsite that fulfills absolutely all the conditions we have been looking for from the beginning. Campsite beneficiaries will be provided with basic humanitarian needs in the form of accommodation, food, hygiene, sanitation and medical care at a location away from the city's populated area, which will significantly improve the safety, epidemiological and health situation in Bihać,” said USC Prime Minister Mustafa Ružnić.

Medical teams have been engaged to conduct a triage, that is, detailed medical examinations of all received persons, when entering the Lipa camp.

“More than one hundred migrants have been examined and for now two people have been diagnosed with fever. These people were immediately isolated in special tents for further examination, and may be tested for coronavirus as recommended by the on-call medical teams. It is indeed commendable that the camp insisted on strict controls and disinfection from day one, and that special attention was paid to the health care,” said Cantonal Minister of Health Nermina Ćemalović.

The construction of a campsite about thirty kilometers away from Bihać was a joint project of the City of Bihać, the Government of the Una-Sana Canton, the FBiH Government, the Ministry of Security, with major investors the European Commission and the Delegation of the European Union to BiH.

“From the beginning, we are involved in the whole project, because it is of the utmost interest to solve this problem as soon as possible. We need to relocate people from the streets and from abandoned buildings, and in the long run, with this camp, we want to solve the problem of the temporary center of Bira in the city center. In this way we help everyone, but primarily protect the citizens of Bihać and the Una-Sana Canton. We hope that in this effort to protect the local population and address the issues of accommodation and humane treatment of migrants, we will have the maximum support of the state and the international community,” said Bihać Mayor Šuhret Fazlić.

They also appealed to the competent state institutions to address the issue of adequate accommodation of more than 400 unaccompanied minors located in the temporary reception center Bira.
