FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 16 (FENA) - Director of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS), Prof. Dr. Sebija Izetbegović, hosted today Head of the WHO Office in BiH, Dr. Victor Olsavszky, and UN Resident Coordinator in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ingrid Macdonald.

They discussed the improvement of mutual cooperation, as well as the successfully implemented measures in KCUS due to the emergence of the pandemic caused by the Covid-19 virus.

Dr. Olsavszky and Macdonald expressed satisfaction with the work of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, as well as their swift response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The health system in BiH is at a fairly good level compared to the countries in the region. You have modern medical equipment and professional staff. An excellent job has been done at the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, but of course more can be done and we should strive for improvement in every segment. The lessons learned from this period of fighting the Covid-19 pandemic should be taken into account in order to strengthen the health care system. It would certainly make it much easier for health care professionals as well as patients. The World Health Organization is open to cooperation and assistance on the road to building a strong health system in BiH,” said Dr. Olsavszky.

UN Coordinator for BiH, Ingrid Macdonald, said meetings such as the one held today are of great use to share information and identify models of cooperation to help overcome the crisis caused by the emergence of the coronavirus.

Macdonald agrees that it is necessary to introduce certain changes in all segments of work, including in health.

KCUS Director, Prof.Dr. Sebija Izetbegović stated that they showed, through a timely reaction and reorganization at KCUS, how to react in crisis situations.
