SARAJEVO, April 16 (FENA) - The BiH Minister of Security Fahrudin Radončić spoke today in Sarajevo with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto and thanked him for the assistance Hungary has provided to BiH, even though it itself is facing a crisis over coronavirus pandemic.

After the meeting, Radončić told reporters that he informed the Hungarian Foreign Minister that BiH has been successfully coping with the epidemic if we compared the numbers of infected and deceased citizens with some other countries.

"We also talked about the migrant crisis, which we expect will continue after the pandemic, and I emphasized that we want to be humane, but our citizens must come first," said Radončić.

He added that he was pleased that Hungary was ready to send a certain number of soldiers to assist the BiH Border Police, which will be decided after solving the FRONTEX issue.

Szijjarto expressed respect for BiH for everything it has done to prevent illegal migration, as it believes the EU has chosen the wrong policy on the issue and has put many Balkan countries in a difficult situation.

"I have made it clear to Minister Radončić that Hungary has not received any illegal migrants so far and will not do so in the future, and that we are ready to provide all possible assistance in the fight against illegal migration," Szijjarto emphasized.

He added that they are ready to help in the fight against coronavirus pandemic and today they have brought to Sarajevo 100,000 protective masks and 5,000 protective suits. The same equipment will be delivered to Banja Luka during the day.

Szijjarto recalled that the Hungarian Embassy in BiH is also NATO contact point for BiH, and that Hungary has asked the Alliance to extend that mandate to 2022.

"It is in Hungary's interest that the Western Balkans remain a stable region with a prospect of development," said Szijjarto.
