BANJA LUKA, April 10 (FENA) -  Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Fahrudin Radončić said today in Banja Luka that the BiH security sector has bought some more important time to get the healthcare system ready to fight coronavirus.

After a meeting with the BiH Presidency Member Milorad Dodik and the RS Interior Minister Dragan Lukač, Radončić praised the work of security services at both the entity and the state levels.

"The measures taken have proved to be very important. The entity snd the state-level security sector has bought an important amount of time for our medical professionals. We gave our medical staff over a month and more to prepare hospitals, purchase ventilators and equipment. We gave them time to fight the coronavirus,” Radončić said.

He praised the cooperation with the entity police administrations.

"We have agreed that part of the assistance from the Republic of Turkey that was intended for the RS goes to our Border Police and police in two cantons," said Radončić.

They also discussed the socio-economic programs and measures BiH has to take when it comes to mitigating the economic damage caused by coronavirus.

Radončić, who is also the leader of the SBB, said that the request of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of BiH to amend the BiH Election Law and delay the calling of local elections is a political one, and that the epidemic should be dealt with first and then political decisions should be made.

"We have a battle to life or death for the next 60 days, many citizens and lives to save, and then we will decide on political issues," he added.

The BiH Presidency Member Milorad Dodik said today that one of the key measures in combating the coronavirus epidemic is the quarantine system at the border and that BiH has taken steps at various levels to protect itself against the virus.

"It was good to hear from the World Health Organization an assessment that BiH has taken good measures, and this has been done thanks to the coordination we have secured. Support measures should be synchronized from the level of BiH to the municipalities in order to know who is doing what," said Dodik.

Dodik is of the opinion that local elections should not be postponed because there is no reason for this, he claims.
