BIHAĆ, April 5 (FENA) - The construction of a temporary reception center at the Lipa site between Bihać and Bosanski Petrovac is almost finished, and relocation of migrants from abandoned facilities in Bihać is expected to begin next week.

The construction and equipping of the center is funded by the European Commission, i.e. the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina. The City of Bihać has earmarked 50.000 KM for the arrangement of the site, with support of the Government of the Una-Sana Canton, the FBiH Government and the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“This is a large construction site, operated by local companies. Weather conditions are good, therefore all deadlines for work dynamics have been respected so far. If everything goes according to the planned schedule, we can expect to start relocation of migrants from the city streets and abandoned buildings next week,” said Bihać Mayor Šuhret Fazlić.

The Government of the Una-Sana Canton will take care of the process of relocation of migrants and health care when the site is ready for that. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) will manage the center under the agreement of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH and the Ministry of Security of BiH.

“When you see this construction site, it can be said that the Bihać City Council made the right decision by choosing this site. In addition to protecting our citizens in this way, we will also create conditions for humane life for migrants. We will significantly improve the health and epidemiological situation and therefore I would like to thank all those involved in the implementation of this project,” said City Council Vice President Asmir Budimlić.
