SARAJEVO, April 2 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, Denis Zvizdić, today received a response from the European Parliament Speaker, David Sassoli to a recent joint appeal by the Western Balkans parliament speakers.
The response points out that the European Union is already taking a number of measures to help the Western Balkans.
"The appeal has already resulted in a decision by the European Commission to grant EUR 38 million to the Western Balkan countries for the purchase of protective equipment and medical devices, and participation in a joint public procurement program for protective medical equipment, organized by the European Commission, has been approved for the countries of the Western Balkans," stated Zvizdić's office.
The statement further reads that the European Commission has decided to divert the already allocated EUR 374 million from the Western Balkans IPA program, which is also one of the requested measures from the appeal.
Chairman Zvizdić has been informed that a meeting of the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade (INTA) will be held on April 21, to discuss the possibility of including the Western Balkans region in the EU + export license scheme, which is yet another important step stemming from the appeal issued on 25 March.
