SARAJEVO, April 1 (FENA) - Even in the circumstances caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the public enterprise FBiH Railways has shown to be an indispensable factor in the BiH economy.
Director-General of the FBiH Railways, Enis Džafić, told FENA that the transport of goods with the implementation of all measures of personnel protection is running smoothly, both in domestic and international traffic.
All international border crossings are open. Procedures have been laid down for the shifts of the railway staff at border stations and they do not slow down the traffic flow. Under the decision of the FBiH Civil Protection Crisis Staff, passenger transportation on all lines has been suspended.
With the introduction of measures and prohibitions due to the coronavirus pandemic, added Džafić, FBiH Railways has more and more pronounced requests for transport services and are at the service of all economic entities trying to maintain the process of production and distribution of their products.
"We will give our full contribution to the preservation of the transport market and the functioning of the economic system. In particular, we express our readiness to deliver wheat in the required quantities to ensure the stability of the wheat and flour markets," said Džafić.
The largest volume of transport to and from BiH is via the Port of Ploče. Transport of goods in export by rail is mostly oriented to the countries of the region (Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia). In the imports, rail transport services are provided mainly from the countries of Central Europe (Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland). So far, there is no change in the flow of these goods by rail.
